Pinakothek der Moderne
Dezember 2020 – 18. April 2021
The presentation in the Pinakothek der Moderne of still life photographs from the Ann and Jürgen Wilde Foundation and the Sammlung Goetz continues the dialogue between works of different collections that began with the show Au rendez-vous des amis. The focus of the current presentation is photography, an artform that experienced great shifts in aesthetics and reception during the twentieth century. Both collections were built by private individuals and reflect their creators’ distinct interests. The collection of Ann and Jürgen Wilde focuses on avant-garde artists from the 1920s and 1930s, while the Sammlung Goetz aspires to build a bridge between contemporary art and other artistic media and processes. For the juxtaposition of the impressive holdings of both collections, the curators have selected the still life, a genre that has its roots in painting but continues to play an essential role in photographic images today.
