With their project Handle with Care, Elmgreen & Dragset are inaugurating “Schaufenster,” the Sammlung Goetz’s new exhibition space in Munich. In combination with works by Rosemarie Trockel, Cindy Sherman, Richard Prince and Tom Sachs, a multidimensional parcours is created, prompting questions concerning vulnerability, identity and tensions between private and public space. 

The staging of female role models in photographic self-portraits is the central theme in the work of the American artist Cindy Sherman. In doing so, she draws on stereotypes from the collective visual memory within a media-shaped world. The exhibition at the Sammlung Goetz / Schaufenster focuses on works from her Fashion series, created between 1983 and 1984. Through Sherman’s passion for costume and masquerade, the world of fashion offers a broad field for her artistic exploration.
