Cindy Sherman. The Early Work Lecture by Dr. Gabriele Schor
Wednesday, March 18, 2015, 7 pm | Goetz Collection

Dr. Gabriele Schor is the author of the catalog raisonné Cindy Sherman: the Early Work of 1975 - 1977 and since its inception in 2004, Director of the Verbund Art Collection in Vienna. She has written an essay for the current exhibition catalog.

Cindy Sherman (born 1954 in Glen Ridge, New Jersey, USA) has had a lasting influence on the art of the 20th century through her photographs. Just like an actress, she portrays herself in different roles in front of the camera. Although they are self-portraits of Sherman in the classic sense, they do not significantly reveal anything about the artist’s personality. Instead she is concerned with the deconstruction of gender roles and stereotypes.
