Mona Hatoum Screening Special

Free screening on the Sammlung Goetz website on Saturday, 08.05.2021, and Sunday, 09.05.2021.

In our screening special on the weekend of May 8/9, we will present the video Roadworks (1985) by Mona Hatoum on our website. A documentary film condensed into a 6'45" clip, the work records Hatoum's eponymous performance, which she staged in the London district of Brixton in 1985. In the video, viewers can see the artist striding barefoot along the sidewalk. Tied to her ankles is a pair of black Dr. Martens boots, which she drags behind her, step by step. In this performance, Hatoum refers to the political events of the 1980s, when Brixton, a multiethnic community, became the scene of racist police violence.

With the Screening Special series, the Sammlung Goetz will present selected films on its website every second Saturday of the month, thus providing a view into its diverse media art collection.
